When You Feel Defeated, Know This: God is for You

When life gets too much, my natural tendency is to live with a victim mentality — to let circumstances dictate my attitude. I automatically embrace helplessness and feel frustrated.
All too quickly, I forget I have the power of the risen Savior on my side, and the Creator of the universe pulls for me. He is an incubator of ideas and a storehouse of strength and power. He is on my side, and He is for me.
Why do we live as though God were against us? His Word tells us He is for us. He wants what's best for us. Fear dissipates when we place our trust in Him and draw from His strength. His presence brings peace and power that we could not have on our own.
We learn in Scripture, “My power is made perfect in weakness . . .” (II Corinthians 12:9 ESV). Even where we are weak, we can rely on the strength of God. Those weak places become strong when we ask for His help.
Scripture tells us, "If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31 ESV). God is the ultimate champion at our side. Fear of man falls away when we focus on the power of the almighty God beside us.
He is not against you, nor is He apathetic. He is not unseeing or unknowing. He is fully aware and fully invested in your life when you let Him be your champion.
Know and remember this all day long: God is for you. He wants to bring His attributes to your side for your benefit and ultimately, for His glory.
God is for me.
Against Him, who or what can stand?
I have the strength of an ox at my disposal, and
hurricane forces at hand.
He harbors knowledge of the oceans deep, and
mountains peak snow as He demands.
He navigates rivers rushing fast, and
soars over parched desert sands.
The polar bears’s warmth and the hummingbird’s speed
regulate at His command.
This is the God who is for me,
such knowledge is wonderful . . . is grand.
My God, do stay at my side.
I commit my life to Your more-than-capable hands.
Lord, thank you that You are for us. You’re not fighting against us. You are on our side. We can trust that You will steer us back on track when we veer off course. We can move forward in the confidence that You are leading every step of the way. You are no weakling. You are strong, and You are for us.
Thank you, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
The poem above describes God’s power as reflected in nature. What part of nature reflects God’s strength and power to you? Feel free to share in the comments below!
Now go in peace, and in the power of the God who is for you.
