Let's Chat About Endurance!

endurance

noun

the fact or power of enduring an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving

way.1

Endurance can show up in our lives in so many ways. We can be challenged in enduring a physical activity, a hardship, or through something as a community. In my experience, endurance becomes the most difficult when we feel as though we’re doing it alone.

Our mind is extremely powerful and extremely private. The things we're challenged with and must endure mentally can at times feel larger than any physical endurance.

As a kid, I was generally an open book. For the most part, I shared my feelings and allowed my family to help me navigate hardships. While there were absolutely hardships, it wasn't until I left home and began to grow into the person I would become that I started experiencing something completely new: anxiety. What is this? Why am I so uneasy? Why is my mind jumping to fear and negativity? While I knew these things were not of the Lord, I didn't know how to deal with the new feelings that felt so foreign to me. I felt alone and incapable of facing the struggle.

While I’m no expert, I want to encourage you today to know that you are not alone. Our minds ARE powerful, which means that we can overcome. If you're feeling anxious, rest in these tips to help you endure.

  1. Pray! Take a breather and pray through whatever is causing you to be anxious. Actively give this struggle to the Lord.

  2. Rest in the Holy Spirit. When those anxious feelings bubble up, put on some worship music and rest in the Lord for as long as you need to feel His presence and peace!

  3. Words are powerful! Claim the Joy that comes from the Lord by actively giving your concerns to the Lord; do it out Loud!

  4. Endure with community. Express what you’re going through to a friend in Christ. If you don't have a close friend to encourage you in your faith, we would love to pray with you. Send us a prayer request! prayer@humblefaithministries.com

  5. Take action in the Word. Grab that tool out of your belt! Spend time in the Word of God, asking the Lord to give you the word of encouragement you need to endure through your day.

  6. Affirming truth is important. Write biblical truths and encouraging passages from the Bible wherever it makes sense for you to consistently fill your heart with the Word of God. Maybe it's a sticky note on your mirror, in your car, on your fridge, or on the inside of your front door.

These tips the Lord and loved ones have placed on my heart make enduring my anxiety possible. Not only possible but something I can conquer. It's something you can conquer, too! Remember, you are not alone in this struggle, no matter how personal and private it feels.

Scriptures to Lead You Through Anxiety

John 14:27 (NKJV) "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

Psalm 139:23-24 (NKJV) "Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting."

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) "For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
